Synapse provides business development teams with a comprehensive understanding of companies, markets, and technology areas, empowering them to make informed decisions. This platform not only enhances knowledge management and competitive intelligence efforts but also consolidates a wide range of innovative features and tools into a single platform.
In this workflow, we will explore the utilization of Synapse to facilitate the discovery of partnership opportunities. By examining organizational profiles and assessing their compatibility, you can effectively identify potential partners. Additionally, we will showcase our comparison tool, which enables you to evaluate and pinpoint the most advantageous partnership prospects for you and your company.
Once you are on the homepage of Synapse, you will see an option to expand the sidebar on the top left of the screen.
Once you have done that, you will see that the platform offers a variety of search options to cater to diverse needs. We will be utilizing the "Drug Finder" option to begin identifying partnership opportunities.
Once you are on the Drug Finder search screen, you'll notice the variety of search options available to you. From this page, you can conduct searches using different fields, including specific drugs, drug types, organizations, targets, mechanisms, and indications. Moreover, you have the ability to refine your search by specific therapeutic areas, development phases, and preferred country or location.
In this case, we will be focusing on a specific drug type. To do so, simply locate the drug type field on the page and enter the term "Bispecific antibody", as an example. You will notice that the Smart Search functionality assists you in this process by displaying possible options as you are typing and allowing you to simply click on the option you are interested in.
At the bottom, you'll see 1263 drugs listed. However, in this workflow, we are more interested in looking at organizations because we are trying to assess whether we can partner with these organizations or not for the specific drug type entered.
Synapse actually allows you to change how drugs are grouped once we are on the results page. You will notice that the results are currently grouped by "Drug".
Simply click on that option and select "Organization." Now, instead of looking at drugs, you will see an extensive list of organizations working within the specific drug type, which is exactly what we are looking for.
You now have the option to further refine your results using the refinements located on the sidebar. For example, let's say we are exploring smaller players in this space to assess their potential instead of considering a large company like Roche. To do this, start by filtering for companies with an "Employee Number" between 50 to 100. Click on the "Refine" button, and you'll notice the number of organizations reduces from 483 to 34.
To narrow down the results even more, let's specify that we are only interested in companies based in the United States. Apply this additional filter, and the number decreases further. Now we are left with 10 organizations that meet our criteria.
After spending some time assessing the filtered results, you might find that one particular company catches your interest. In our case, let's say Compass Therapeutics stands out. To delve deeper into this company, hover your mouse over its name, and a helpful pop-up with the company description will appear. For a closer look, click on Compass Therapeutics, and it will lead you to a detailed company page. This page offers an excellent overview and provides valuable information about the organization.
At the top of the page, you'll notice the option to visit their website, along with a summary of the company. For example, Compass Therapeutics was founded in 2014 in the US, and its stock symbol is NASDAQ: CMPX. You will also see some charts that provide information on the company's focused therapeutic areas, most used technologies in drug development, and most frequently developed targets. These charts are interactive, so if you want to explore further, you can hover over specific areas. For example, if you want to view the specific drugs associated with Bispecific antibodies that Compass Therapeutics is working on, simply hover over that specific area and click on the corresponding bar. This will open a new tab with more information on the 4 drugs.
If you scroll down on the company overview page, you get more information on Compass Therapeutics, for example, a snapshot of their pipeline, the current projects they are working on, and financial data such as revenue and balance sheets.
Overall, this comprehensive company detail page equips you with a wealth of information to assess and analyze as you consider potential partnership opportunities with different organizations.
Comparison Tool
If you want to assess multiple companies and get an overview of their focuses and current work, Synapse provides a useful comparison tool. For example, let's take a look at Compass Therapeutics and Surrozen. To initiate the comparison, on the results page, locate the checkboxes next to each company. Now, at the bottom right corner of the page, you'll notice a pop-up that says "Compare organizations." Click on "Compare organizations" to access the comparison tool.
The comparison tool allows you to view the 2 companies simultaneously and analyze their disease domains, technology platforms, and other relevant information. While it may not provide the same level of detail as individual company detail pages, it offers a good overview, enabling you to assess which company aligns best with your requirements.
It's worth noting that the comparison tool is not limited to organizations alone. You can also use it to compare other datasets. For example, if you wish to compare drugs, the tool allows you to compare up to four drugs side by side.
This workflow demonstrates how Synapse enables you to delve into partnership opportunities by not only focusing on larger companies but also exploring synergies and opportunities with smaller players. The comparison tool facilitates a granular analysis, supporting informed decision-making for collaboration prospects.
