Why Do Some Patents Have More Than 1 Priority Date?

Patents can claim priority from more than one document as they may share aspects from each one. For example, if a new family member added some claims or aspect of an invention, and another one after that has the same elements, then it will need to claim priority not only from the original invention but also the document that added some material.
