How Do I Use The Agency Analysis Report?

The Agency Analysis report helps you to identify the most compatible agencies by conveniently using our agency list. Thus, you can conduct an assessment of target agencies and quickly identify high performing agencies that specialize in a specific technology area. This report is currently available for Chinese agencies only. 

 

To access the Agency Analysis report, on the Insights home page scroll to the Patent Application Tools reports. Find the agency analysis option and click 'Create analysis'.

Once you are on the Agency list page, you can further refine agencies by IPC level and region.

Additionally, you can also search the agency by typing the name in the search bar on the top right.

Once you have selected the agencies of interest, you can either export the results (in Excel) or compare the agencies.

If you choose to compare agencies, you'll see 6 charts. Below is a quick look at what the charts look like:

Let's quickly go through the different charts and the information they display:

 

1. Agency Information

This chart shows the details of the agencies as they compare with each other. This includes their date of foundation, company size, and registered capital. This chart helps you to get a high-level view of the strength of each agency.

 

2. Patent Type Analysis

This graph shows a breakdown of the patent types and patent count handled by each agency. It also helps you to understand what types of patents each agency typically processes thus shows the different areas of expertise and assesses the patent count to help you understand the capacity of each agency. 

 

3. Patent Quality Analysis

This chart shows the quality and stability of patents processed by each agency. The graph compares five dimensions, covering grant rate, rejection rate, withdrawal rate, % of rights maintained after invalidation is brought forward, and percentage of successful grant after re-examination. Agencies showing a higher percentage for grant rate, rights maintained after invalidation, and successful grants after re-examination demonstrate the stability of their processed applications. The lower the rejection rate and withdrawal rate, the higher the stability.

 

4. Claim and Page Count Analysis

This graph shows the average number of claims and the average page count of granted patents processed by each agency. It helps you to identify agencies that have handled patents containing higher average page count and claim count.

 

5. Grant Time Analysis

This graph shows the average grant time of each agency. Lower average grant times may represent more efficient agencies that work to accelerate the grant of an application swiftly.

 

6. Top Technology Areas of Focus

The chart analyzes the technology focus of the agencies. It helps you to visualize the expertise of agencies in different technology classifications, thus highlighting where they have had experience in applying for patents. It also helps you to compare and contrast the technology areas of expertise of each agency to help you decide on which agency to work with.

 

Finally, once you are happy with the charts you can also export them in pdf/ppt format by clicking the export button on top right.

Clicking 'Save Playbook' saves the playbook on your Insights reports page. Thus gives you easy access to the saved agency analysis playbook.
