There are two ways to search within Eureka by Patsnap, each with its own advantages. You will find the Technical Q&A search area and the General Search area. The General Search area allows you to make a simple query search as well as an Advanced Search and Competitor Search and Semantic Search.
Technical Q&A
You are able to toggle between the General Search and Technical Q&A search straight from the homepage:
You can click on a few examples shown underneath the search box to find out how it works. Once you ask your technical question, a report will be created.
This report will give you answers to the information reuqested, it will also cite the sources of where the information is found. If you scroll down the page, it will also show you applicable cases for your technical question as well as other related questions in the same technological area which may help you further research it.
General Search
The General Search helps you find documents related to your keywords.
After entering a keyword, press Enter on your keyboard. This will now allow you to enter a second keyword in combination with a basic operator:
The basic operators are AND, OR, and NOT. They allow you to say whether words must be returned, whether they are optional, or not wanted at all.
OR: We would usually insert OR between terms used to provide a variant or set of options in your search. It retrieves patents containing either or both of the keywords or criteria.
AND: AND serves as a bridge between more than one term that you want to categorically appear with each other. It retrieves patents containing both keywords or criteria. Either keyword or criteria may appear first.
NOT: This operator works like the word NOT does in day-to-day life. If you want to look for some terms, but NOT others, you can list the others after the operator NOT. It retrieves patents containing the first keyword but not containing the second keyword.
Advanced Search
Clicking on the "Advanced Search" option will allow you to build a more comprehensive and specific query. Here you can chose in more details as to what the keyword is meant to represent or where the search is suppose to look, for this keyword.
A preview of the total patent and paper records found in your search will also be shown here.
Competitor Searching
Similar to keyword searching you first start your search by entering your desired company in the search bar. It will give you recommended Organizations in a dropdown that matches your search. When you use the recommended companies it will only look for that company as an Owner, and not look for it in the body of the patents. Make sure to click on the recommended company of your chosing before clicking "Search".
Once you have selected your company it will bring you to the results screen showing every patent that is owned by that company, and the related literature tab.
Semantic Searching
You are also able to complete a Semantic Search in Eureka by Patsnap. Patsnap's Semantic Search is a quick and easy way of searching for patents or literature relevant to a portion of text that you have provided. You can either copy and paste in a body of text, or you can write out your own. For optimal results, we recommend that your text is at least 200 words long. This search will give you the top 100 most relevant results based on your text.
