    Hi Stephen,

Welcome to the Community! Thanks for posting!

"Pledge" refers to when a patent has been pledged to a financial institution as a form of collateral for securing a business loan.

"Transfer" is when the applicant/owner of a patent has changed. This can happen both pre- and post-grant.

You can find a full list of definitions for our legal codes in the following article: https://help-patsnap-com.sutd.idm.oclc.org/hc/en-us/articles/115005282709-Simple-Legal-Status-Legal-Status-Legal-Event-Search-Guide

I also noticed that you sent the following additional query over to us: "I am trying to get a nice high level report on patents and applications where the assignee is United States Steel and the patent is currently enforced."

My recommendation would to be to first create a search query of the form ALL_AN:("UNITED STATES STEEL") AND SIMPLE_LEGAL_STATUS:("1")

Once you have done this, I would recommend you to go to Insights to create a technology key report which provides many high level charts.
