From the results page (and some other parts of PatSnap), you can select a specific patent you want to inspect. After doing so, you will enter the "Patent View" screen.
Make note of the toolbar that will be available on the top right part of the Patent View in many sections.
Using this toolbar, you will be able to Download the PDF file of the patent you are inspecting, save it to a Workspace, assign values to custom fields, leave a comment, share the patent (link/email), and translate text from its original language to English, Chinese, or Japanese.
Additionally, on the right side of the screen you'll find your original search results in a list alongside some other options.
You can access the Keyword Highlighter (explained on Part 2), the Structure Highlighter, and the option for reporting data errors. When reporting a data error you are able to select from the options of data missing/incomplete, data error, data improvement, or others. |

It is also possible to navigate through the results using the arrow buttons pointing up and down, or to hide this sidebar completely by clicking on the arrow button pointing right. |
Overview
The first thing that will appear after entering Patent View, is the "Overview" page. The Overview page has multiple sections to select from, "Abstract" will be the first one to appear. |
Abstract Under "Abstract", you will be able to see various pieces of relevant information about the selected patent.
Claims The next section from the overview page is "Claims". You can either view the claims of the patent as a list, in the same way they would be shown in the patent itself, or using the "Claim Tree" tool. This is how the standard Claims page looks.
Claim Tree You can change the view to "Claim Tree" by selecting it at the top left-hand part of the screen.
The Claim Tree illustrates the relationship between the independent and dependent claims of the patent. An independent claim is the broadest claim whereas dependent claims refer to the independent claim and include all its features with some further detail added to the independent claim. Initially, you will see just the independent claims, but you can also see the dependent claims by clicking on the orange boxes on the left side of each independent claim.
You can also see claims that are dependent on the dependent claims by clicking on the black boxes.
Description The next option from the overview page is "Description", where you are able to view a broken-up description of the patent with anchor links on the right side.
Images The next option is "Images". Here you can see the images contained within the original PDF file of the patent.
Smart Image On the top right corner of this screen, you can access the "Smart Image" tool, if you choose to toggle it ON, it will display patent terms on relevant figures using Smart Image technology. If you click on any one of these terms, you will be able to see a red mark that indicates the place in which an Image alludes to this term.
If you open an image while Smart Image is ON, you will be able to see all of the terms that correspond to the selected image. It is possible to rearrange these terms as you consider best.
Similar Patents When you reach the “Similar Patents” section, PatSnap completely disregards the search query that you used to arrive at the patent that you are currently viewing. Instead, it uses the same algorithm as our semantic search. The similarity of the listed patents is based on keywords that are present in the patent you are currently viewing. At first, you will be presented with a list of 100 documents (20 per page). In this list, each entry will display a tag indicating if this similar patent has a priority date earlier or later than the viewed patent, along its publication number and title, current assignee, application date, and publication date.
At the top right part of the screen you will find three buttons labelled "More Similar Patents", "Save" and "Export".
If you click on the "More Similar Patents" button, a new results page will be opened in a new tab with 1,000 similar patents in total. "Save" will allow you to save the patents contained in the page you are currently viewing into a Workspace. "Export" will allow you to export the patents contained in the page.
Patent Valuation Another option from the overview page is "Patent Valuation" which gives the valuation for the patent and shows some of the different scores that are used to calculate this value.
PatSnap uses an indicator-based patent valuation system. It analyses simple patent families using a set of 80+ objective value indicators (e.g. forward- and backwards-citations, patent family sizes, geographical coverage, patent age, legal status etc.) and adjusts the calculated patent value based on empirical data of historical patent transactions. |

On this map, you can decide which information you want to display. For example, which patents have licensing information, and which ones are involved in litigation. PatSnap will display an icon next to the patent concerned.
